Living Compassion is the brainchild of celebrated Zen
teacher and
author Cheri Huber, a long-time contributor and trusted source for
Experience Life. A nonprofit organization dedicated to
promoting peace and
service, Living Compassion offers a unique
assortment of services and
educational products and opportunities that
are ideal for people looking to
reduce stress, overcome obstacles and
develop self-awareness. These offerings are based on Huber’s philosophy of
conscious, compassionate awareness, which she says allows us to stop
suffering
and live in the present.
Huber leads workshops and retreats at Living Compassion’s two California
locations — the Palo Alto Zen Center and Zen Monastery Peace Center —
and her
passion for service has led her to Africa where she established
a Living
Compassion center for vulnerable children. We’re constantly
inspired by her
enthusiasm for helping people build better, happier,
healthier lives through
awareness and compassion.
How It Works
Living Compassion offers a wide variety of services, products
and
educational opportunities. For complete information about all their
programs, visit their Web site.
In the meantime, we’re spotlighting three of
their valuable offerings:
Open Air with Cheri
Huber — Open Air is a weekly, one-hour call-in
radio show with Zen teacher Cheri Huber. Huber takes calls from
listeners from
around the world, answering questions and fostering
conversations on the
practice of conscious, compassionate awareness.
Topics are wide-ranging but
universally applicable, from getting over
self-sabotage to improving the quality
of relationships. To listen to
the live show, visit www.livingcompassion.org/openair every Tuesday
evening at 6:50 p.m. CST. You can also listen to
archives of shows dating back
to 2002 or subscribe to the podcast to automatically download the most
recent
shows.
Books by Cheri
Huber — Huber has penned 19 books — all of which are
available at the Living Compassion Web site.
Each book aims to improve quality
of life through Zen teachings and
practices. We have referenced many of Huber’s
books in Experience
Life stories (see the “Related Content” section below). To
order a
book, visit www.livingcompassion.org/keepitsimple/books.html.
Onething
Revolution
— The Onething Revolution is a project to help decrease
feelings of
helplessness and hopelessness about the state of the world.
Onething asks
participants who feel overwhelmed by world problems to
focus on just one action
they can take to make the world a better place
— for themselves and the planet —
and then make a five-second video in
which they state their one thing. The
project is seeking video
submissions. Check out the video below for an inspirational intro to the initiative; to
submit your own video, go to www.livingcompassion.org/onething/index.html.
Cost and Commitments
Costs and commitments vary for each program (for
complete details, see
the Living Compassion Web site):
Open Air: Open
Air is free to listeners but does accept donations. (Living Compassion
is a
nonprofit and donations are greatly appreciated.)
Book Store: The
price for each book varies, but most retail for around $12. Shipping
and
handling is $5.
Onething Revolution:
It’s free to watch Onething
videos and to submit your
own. The only requirement? Inspiration!
