11/15/2005: Experience Life Wins Multiple Industry Awards

Experience Life magazine was recognized by two different publishing organizations for design, editorial and overall excellence during recent award presentation.

At the 2005 Folio: Awards in New York earlier this month, Experience Life magazine was awarded a gold Ozzie for excellence in the use of illustration for consumer magazines with circulation greater that 250,000. The award was the first national award for the publication.

At the ninth annual Minnesota Magazine and Publications Association (MMPA) Publishing Excellence Awards Gala, Experience Life magazine was recognized with six awards including a gold in General Excellence. This is the third consecutive year that Experience Life has garnered one or more MMPA awards for editorial and design excellence.

Experience Life is a healthy-way-of life magazine published 10 times a year by Life Time Fitness, Inc., a national operator of large and distinctive health and fitness centers. While in many respects a “custom-published” magazine, Experience Life reaches both a member and general-consumer audience, with a total circulation of more than 550,000.

This hybrid publishing model, combined with its “crossover” award appeal, large circulation and national newsstand presence, make it unique in both the custom-published and general-consumer magazine worlds.

“We pride ourselves on being able to compete with some of the leading general interest and lifestyle magazines in the country,” says Experience Life’s founding editor in chief, Pilar Gerasimo, who helped launch the magazine in 2001. “We think our longstanding emphasis on balanced, well-researched content and our magazine’s authentic, whole-person perspective are a big part of what’s made that possible.”

Held on Nov. 3, 2005, in Minneapolis, the MMPA Awards Gala is the largest magazine publishing event in the state. Within the areas of editorial, design and overall excellence, three awards – gold, silver and bronze – are available in each category.

Experience Life also earned:

A Gold award for Best How-To Article (“Shopping Cart Makeover” featured in September 2004)
A Silver award for Use of Visual Art (“Fire Your Inner Taskmaster” featured in December 2004)
A Silver award for Single Topic/Special Section (“Power Aging” featured in July/August 2004)
A Silver award for Single Topic/Special Section (“Health Work” featured in March 2005)
A Bronze award for Overall Design

Experience Life was competing in the category of “General Interest” with a circulation over 60,000.

Experience Life covers the cutting edge of fitness, nutrition and wellness, while probing the depths of personal development and questioning cultural assumptions. The magazine gives readers a heads-up about truly worthy ideas and products — from healthy foods and fitness gear to natural health and beauty products — while rejecting superficial gimmicks and “buy your way to fitness” promises. Experience Life also focuses on the common-sense health essentials that can be easy to overlook in the midst of diet crazes and fitness fads competing for attention. In short, Experience Life delivers on it’s promise to help readers develop a better body, and a better life: “Healthy. Happy. For Real.”

Available at most Barnes and Noble, Borders and B. Dalton locations nationwide, Experience Life is also available by subscription. It has a national circulation of more than 500,000 and covers a wide variety of quality-of-life topics, including health and nutrition, fitness and athletics, personal wisdom, stress-management, sustainable lifestyle, active adventures and more. The magazine’s in-depth features provoke the interest of fitness enthusiasts as well as those seeking a natural, healthier and happier way of life.
